First Monthly ‘Chat with a Cop’

On February 6, the Central district held its first monthly “Chat with a Cop” public meeting at the Central branch of the Madison Public Library with Captain Michael Hanson and CORE Officer Jonathan Urbina. On the agenda: An introduction to the Community Policing Advisory Board and the Department of Justice Grant funding the work as well as a primer on the Central district, including organization and staffing and types of calls for service.

The meeting drew few attendees given the limited publicity and fast turnaround time from its development; however, a local TV station was interested in the event and interviewed Captain Hanson on the history and purpose of the Community Policing Advisory Boards. We are working with city and neighborhood leaders, associations, nonprofits, networking groups, and businesses to get the word out in hopes of a more robust attendance for the monthly meetings to follow, starting with March 2024.
